Leadership, nowadays, is regarded as a tough risk, concealed with many responsibilities, works and portfolio of stress. Literally, leadership is defined as the act of spearheading a group or movement while management is an act, manner or practicing organization. QCA has a vision of bringing its students to the top of leadership excellence by training them on co- and extra- curricular activities that help them excel not only academically but also on leadership and citizenship aspects.
With this vision, the school has different activities that aim to bring out confidence, intelligence and good leadership with its students, activities that teach us to be brave, courteous, analytical and candid.
Every month, there are certain activities enhancing the skills of students. Examples are the Mr. and Miss QCA 2011; September; the Mr. and Miss UN; October; the English Fest; November; and the Pamaskong Puso and Foundation Day in December.
In this case, do we have too many extra curricular activities here in QCA, is it really too much to handle? Let’s ask our fellow QCAians.
“In my point of view, it’s not too much because these programs help us enhance our skills,” Belinda Del Rosario, Abad Santos remarked.
“Sometimes, I think these programs are too much. Maybe we should focus more on our academics,” a fourth year student said.
“I think if we can just balance our academics and these extra curricular activities, we will really excel in school,” a third year student said.
CECA comprises 30% of our grades, 70% is for academics. Points are awarded for students who perform certain activities. These activities have the goal of enhancing our multiple intelligences: Spatial, Linguistic, Logical-mathematical, Bodily-kinesthetic Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Naturalistic which according to Howard Gardner serves as a model of intelligence that differentiates intelligence into various specific (primarily sensory) modalities, rather than seeing it as dominated by a single general ability.
Let us remember that books and knowledge alone cannot be a good basis of a good and intelligent leader. We need different activities to enhance our intelligences and skills that books cannot provide. Also my dear school mates let us only take certain activities that we can handle. Let us not seek for more positions wherein we cannot be an effective leader.
Only here in QCA we can find an institution that does not only equip its students with knowledge but also with skills that can be used in our real lives. Truly, there’s no other school like QCA!
