Pageants are beneficial in a way that it boosts the self confidence and enhances the discipline of the participants. QCA celebrated its 57th United Nations Celebration last October 26, 2011 with its theme “From poverty to sustainability people at the center of inclusive development”.
The candidates of Mr. and Ms. UN gave a brief history about their represented country, the traditions and culture, the languages used in the country and the number of its population. Ms. Venezuela, Patricia San Juan of Abad Santos and Mr. Japan, Vince Velasco of Escoda bagged the UN 2011 title.
Other winners were: 1st runner up, Ms. France, Bernadette Flores (III- Antimony), and Mr. Venezuela, Nathaniel Suing (IV- Abad Santos); 2nd runner up, Ms.Columbia , Khristine Chua (IV- Felipe)and Mr.Georgia, Patrick Ramos (II- Ageo). The Best in National Costume was awarded to Mr. Trinidad and Tobago, Jerome Villegas (IV-Hidalgo), and Ms. Venezuela, Patricia San Juan (IV-Abad Santos).
Velasco was an SASF member in his junior year and currently, a CAT officer. He believes that his confidence, his being optimistic and his faith in God made him win the competition. “He is a really nice guy and he deserves to win the title”, Sarah Binuya of Abad Santos said.
San Juan was a Pabinhian member in her first and second year. She was an SASF member in her third year. “Ever since I won the competition, I did my best to serve as a role model not only to the seniors but also to the entire QCA student body.” Patricia San Juan of Abad Santos stated.
“ I think that the Mr. and Ms. UN pageant should also include a talent portion for those who are included in the top 5 for them to showcase and present more of themselves”, a student remarked.
“I know that they deserve to win the pageant; I think the UN pageant was a success and I am looking forward to see another great pageant next year!” Veniece Aquines of Antimony added.
The UN celebration was organized by the Bureau of Social Studies director John Nicolai Parlan and Mr. Romeo Mangabat Jr., adviser. The production numbers were choreographed by Mr. Ruben Agustin Jr., MAPEH teacher.
